The common thread of this third itinerary is the relationship between viticulture and the land. The characteristics of the environment and favorable climatic conditions, with the right percentage of sunshine hours and rainfall, have made Mendrisiotto an ideal area for viticulture.
This third route dedicated to Merlot, from the Laveggio plain leads to the slopes of Mount St. George. Wandering into the municipality of Clivio, in neighboring Italy, one crosses hilly landscapes where vines unquestionably reign supreme. All the villages on this side of the Mendrisiotto are touched by the route: small nuclei that guard a great artistic heritage, evidence of the remarkable wisdom achieved by the craftsmen of these districts, whose discovery goes hand in hand with that of the territory; nooks and crannies where the stones of the terraces blend in with those of the houses and where some traditional activities, such as those related to the extraction and working of stone, are still alive.
A route that is full of charm, but also long and strenuous, which, however, can also be enjoyed in stages by using the existing articulated hiking network.
