Yang Xiaojian

March 28 to June 09, 2024 with more than one hundred works on paper created between 2004 and 2021, the exhibition at MUSEC in Lugano offers an overview of the most recent expressions of Yang Xiaojian (Taiyuan, Shanxi 1960) and restores the wholly original itinerary that led the Chinese artist to abandon traditional calligraphic writing in favor of pure painting, where there is no distinction between abstract and figurative.

Walking through the exhibition halls, from the first large papers on display, true abstract landscapes, the visitor witnesses a gradual shrinking of the size of the works, which metaphorically translates into images the artist’s ideal journey toward individual essence and nature.

The initiative is the new chapter in the “Global Aesthetics” cycle, through which MUSEC explores the various forms and languages of contemporary creativity, in order to bring the deep reasons and context of the processes of artistic creation back into focus.
