JazzAscona is one of the most important jazz festivals in Switzerland and is proud to be the only festival outside the United States officially sponsored by the city of New Orleans. But how did it come about and what is so extraordinary about this festival? Let’s find out together!
The 40th
Since 1985 one of the world’s leading events dedicated to New Orleans Beat, JazzAscona attracts enthusiastic audiences each year who appreciate the originality of the rich program, the festival’s holiday ambiance and the spectacular scenery of Ascona.
JazzAscona is a great festival, offering a full immersion in the music, culture and cuisine of New Orleans.
It offers about 200 concerts in 10 days, with non-stop concerts from noon to late at night on the four stages along the lakefront and in bars, restaurants, alleys and small squares throughout the picturesque Borgo, with concerts in often acoustic or semi-acoustic mode
From 2022 all concerts are free.
The festival offers a unique musical mix. From New Orleans jazz to swing, blues to R&B, gospel to soul, all genres related to the great tradition of jazz and African American music are represented.
JazzAscona is the only festival in Europe officially supported by the City of New Orleans. Ascona and New Orleans are also “Sister Cities”: the official twinning was signed in 2022, right during the festival, by the mayors of the two cities.
In addition, all concerts are free.
