“The history of wine is inseparable from the history of mankind. Wine, the fruit of the vine and man’s labor, could not be taken for a mere commodity. A companion of man for millennia, wine belongs at the same time to the sacred and the profane. It is a value of civilization and criterion of quality of life. It constitutes a cultural good. It is a factor of social life. It is a condition of economic development but also of technological and scientific progress of numerous regions in Europe and the world.”

Thus begins the “Wine Charter” adopted in 1991 by the European Conference of Wine-growing Regions its quotation seemed to me to be a must at the opening of this publication dedicated to Merlot del Ticino….
